Childhood Soup (Polewka)
That’s a soup that reminds me of my grandparents and my childhood, especially during summer time spend with them and helping on a farm. That’s maybe not a king’s soup, but for me is like a ‘comfort food’ soup. It’s quick, easy to make and actually you just need couple ingredients to make.
Prep time: 7 mins Cook time: 30 mins Total time: 37 mins
Ingredients
1l of sour milk or buttermilk
300ml of water
potatoes
salt
butter
bacon (if you want to)
As I mention it’s really easy.
So we start with potatoes, peel them and cook them in water and some salt, to be soft.
Take bigger pot and on a medium high heat bring to boil sour milk/buttermilk with water and a 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Keep stiring soup. When it’s boiling, turn the heat low and let it simmer for couple mins and it’s ready.
Now you have two options of serving it:
Take a bowl, put some cooked potatoes and teaspoon of butter and cover with soup. You can add some more salt – up to your taste.
That’s my grandpa way to eat it – dice bacon and fry it on a pan (do NOT add any oil/butter, bacon is fat enough). Then you go like previous – to a bowl add potatoes and cover them with bacon and a bit of fat from it and cover with soup. Enjoy!
